The Yankees of the were created in 1946 when the owner of the established league's Boston Yanks was denied a move to NYC. The team drew big crowds and frequently sold out Yankee Stadium. Hall of fame coach Ray Flaherty lead the team to back-to-back championship games, but lost both to the Browns. The team featured forgotten legend Spec Sanders, whose career only lasted four seasons. Sanders led the AAFC in touchdowns and rushing yards, threw for over 1,000 yards, intercepted three passes, and returned kicks. When the AAFC merged with the older league, the Yankees players were divided between the other two New York teams, the Giants and Bulldogs.
