The Miami Floridians started as the , charter members of the They spent only one season in the Twin Cities. In their first two seasons in South Florida,  the team was coached by hall of famer Jim Pollard. In 1970, owner Ned Doyle replaced the entire roster and changed the name to simply The Floridians. They played at various arenas around Florida but struggled with poor attendance, despite bikini-clad cheerleaders. The team looked to relocate, but ended up folding after the 1971-72 season.
